Service Installation Map
Our network connects the 58 communities of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut along with specific
communities of the Yukon on a single network. Using dedicated satellite channels, and where available
terrestrial digital microwave, our network offers capacity ranging from 64Kbps to T1 (1536kbps). The
satellite links are redundant with 2 channels applied to each segment of the network, providing network
back up capacity. The network frame relay infrastructure is based on Nortel Passport Frame Relay switches.
Regional Hubs
In the current network configuration 48 communities home to Yellowknife as a network hub. Ten of the Nunavut
communities home to Iqaluit as the capital and regional hub.
Last Mile Access
”Last Mile“ connections in each community are provided via a managed PairGain xDSL platform. This CSU/DSU is
standard service as part of our pricing and does not require the customer provision of a CSU/DSU.
Gateway
Our network gateways with the Telus National Frame Relay network via a frame relay NNI, providing
seamless extension of southern networks to northern Canada.
As our operating area covers Canada's most rugged landscape and remote
communities, supplying service has a lot to do with the logistics
of travel and manpower. To help understand and appreciate this
issue, below is a map that provides an indication of the distances
involved to provision services in these communities as well as
a chart that outlines the average time to effect service. The
numbers provided are estimate only and are based on best effort.
